Grand Portage National Monument
Each year during the height of the fur trade,
trappers would haul great hides down the
now-historic Grand Portage to market their
merchandise. Today, this grand rendezvous
celebrates that great get-together with reenactments
of the trade, plus games, skills
and challenges. You’ll also enjoy music,
dancing, crafts and hands-on workshops,
all sponsored by the National Park Service
and Grand Portage Band of Chippewa.

Downtown Grand Marais to Pincushion Mountain
Whether you’re a beginner, an expert
or in the sport class, winding your way
up 1,000 feet of wilderness between
Lake Superior’s shore and the peak of
Pincushion Mountain will give you a pretty
good idea what it means to be winded.
Trust us, the scenery isn’t the only thing
that’s breathtaking. Ski and snowmobile
trails provide the route up, and the sport
and expert classes navigate the single
track portion at Pincushion for their final
flourish. There’s all sorts of lodging,
dining
and things to do in Grand Marais.
