It's the most unique collection of Inuit art south of Alaska and northern Canada, and renowned sculptors Ohito Ashoona and Karen Olanna will be here to share their collections, their inspiration and their culture. Explore works of sculpted soapstone, caribou antler, musk ox horn, whalebone and ancient woolly mammoth bone. Enjoy other weekend events including an Inuit film screening, carving demos, Nunivak-style throat singing, and a chance to visit with - and learn from - all the participating artists. Grand Marais Art Colony

Witness the spirit of the north woods as reflected in this traditional Lenten theme. It's both inspiring and unexpected, and it brings together the Art Colony, the Spirit of the Wilderness and more than two dozen local artists. Their original artwork ranges from woodblock to watercolor, glass to textile, photography to wood, and clay to oils. Inuit Stone Sculpting - Movement on Ice

These classes offer rare opportunities to work with soapstone carving master and award-winning Inuit sculptor Ohito Ashoona. You'll learn traditional techniques for coaxing art out of stone, and with Ohito's gentle teaching, you'll get the chance to create your own soapstone seal and polar bear, both of which are reflections of Inuit cultural identity.
