Last update: April 12, 2010

Updates will be posted as they become available for the following locations, beginning winter 2010:

For information on mid-Gunflint trails, you may wish to contact Boundary Country Trekking, Banadad Trails (1-800-322-8327), Golden Eagle Lodge (1-800-346-2203) or Bearskin Lodge, Mid Gunflint Trails(1-800-338-4170), and Gunflint Pines Resort, Upper Gunflint Trails (1-800-533-5814) for details on the XC trails nearest to them.

A Minnesota Ski Pass is required for Pincushion Mountain Trails and all MN DNR-maintained trails for ages 16 and over - be sure to sign your pass and carry it with you. Passes may be purchased at Buck's Spur Station, Mike's Holiday Station Store, some Gunflint Trail lodges and all fish and game license sales locations. Costs are: $15 per year, $5 per day or $40 for three years.

For the Central Gunflint Trail System, passes may be obtained at either Golden Eagle Lodge or Bearskin Lodge (these businesses maintain the trails and have their own passes for purchase - these trails do not require a MN Ski Pass) There is no charge for parking if skiing.

The Gunflint Mid-Trail System (Banadad Trail System) does require a MN Ski Pass. You may arrange lodge-to-lodge trips with Boundary Country Trekking and also arrange a shuttle service between the east and west trailheads by calling 218-388-4487 or 1-800-322-8327. There is a $10 parking fee at the east trailhead at Poplar Creek Guesthouse, but no parking fee at the west trailhead near Loon Lake.

For the Upper Gunflint Trail System (Gunflint Lodge, Gunflint Pines Resort, Heston's Resort), purchase of the Upper Gunflint Trail Nordic Ski Pass is required, the MN Ski Pass is not. The cost for adults is $12 daily, $24 weekend and $40 weekly. For children 12 - 16 years, daily is $6, weekend is $14, and weekly is $24. Children under the age of 12 are included with a paid adult.

Please remember that dogs and sleds are not allowed on groomed ski trails. Snowshoeing is allowed on any hiking trail in our brochure - so just call 888-922-5000 for more information. Pincushion Mountain has designated snowshoe trails (no dogs, please); at George Washington Memorial Forest, snowshoeing is permitted along the side of the XC trail. Bearskin Lodge, Golden Eagle Lodge and Boundary Country Trekking also have snowshoe trails, as does Cascade Lodge - enjoy!
