Grand Marais Greatest Hits.
Mother Nature’s Zoo
Wildlife viewing is on everyone’s list. Moose is at the top, but you may spot wolf, fox, pine marten, lynx, black bear, beaver, deer and even a family of otters (lucky visitors catch them on the boardwalk). Visit the area often, and you may see a cow moose with her calf (or twins), a bear lunching on blueberries, and hear a loon’s cry announce the end of day. Yep, life gets pretty wild in and around Grand Marais. wildlife touring, bird watching, scenic touring
Silent Snow Sports
If you’ve got the equipment, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are two of the best ways to make the most of snow. Just strap ‘em on and hit the trails. You’ll enjoy spectacular north shore vistas, pristine forest backdrops and the clear, quiet calm of winter. Artists’ Point
Mother Nature’s Water Parks
Forget the canned, tourist-trap version. Here, we don’t have “waterfall simulations” or “wave pools” — we have actual waterfalls and actual waves. Minnesota State Parks

You can do a lot more for a lot less and have a whole lot of fun while you’re doing it. Park your car (free parking everywhere) and nose around our pedestrian-friendly downtown. Take in that postcard-perfect harbor scene with moored sailboats, the lighthouse, and the Big Lake beyond. Grab a bite at one of our eclectic restaurants or brown bag it with lunchables from one of our three grocery stores, including our organic co-op. Then adventure on to one of many free festivals or events—there’s something happening practically every weekend of the year. Remember: you can’t put a price tag on fun. Get to Grand Marais, and see how much more you can do. Don’t let anyone tell you that having fun has to carry a hefty pricetag. Give your kids the simple joys of some together time in a setting that is seemingly tailor made for family fun. Click here for a full list of kids activities that are free or next to nothing. More for the Kids Last Minute Lodging If you are stopping into town last minute and didn’t get a chance to secure a reservation, make the Visitor Information Center your first stop. Call 218-387-2524 or 1-888-922-5000. What’s it cost to get here? This info is based on getting 25 miles per gallon at $2.60 per gallon, mileage one way. (June 2009 average gas price)
